Red Cone Member Report We decided to run Red Cone and Radical Hill at the last minute and though the trail started out with no snow we weren't too far into the mountains before there was a light dusting of it to the sides of the trail. When we came out of the trees and saw Red Cone for the first time it was more like White Cone -- completely covered in snow. We made our way up to the peak and about midway up the trail itself had snow on it too. When we got to the top it was a scary look down, with about two inches of snow on the trail. Monica went first, sliding and panicking all the way down. Nathan made it look easier but the guys were freaking out when they got to the bottom of the hill, too. The second hill looked snowy and bad again too, but then cleared out to wet dirt and rocks about midway down. The last hill was wet dirt with no snow. We were happy to make it down to the crossroads of Webster Pass! We flew down the switchbacks as usual, though we didn't go as fast as other times due to the fact that the trail was wet. We ate lunch in the meadow, of course, and though it was overcast and chilly it was still beautiful. Not bad for Nathan's first Colorado offroad trip! I'm never doing Red Cone in the snow again.
