Trip Report: Phantom Canyon (Colorado)

We started the day off in the town of Cripple Creek for the Ice Festival. Ice sculptors turn blocks of ice into amazing artwork for the public to enjoy, and we really enjoyed our brief time in town. It was very cold outside, only around 16 degrees. So we did not spend too much time walking around outside with the sculptures. We did have lunch in Cripple Creek. It took over an hour for lunch, which was tough because we were all ready to get out on the trail...

Trip Report: Fern Creek (Colorado)

We found more and more snow the closer we got to Rampart Range Road. The Fern Creek trail was a blast up near the top of the trail with all the snow! You had to just keep moving most of the time. If you stopped, it was hard to get started again. Even though it was work at times, we all enjoyed the challenges...

Trip Report: Missouri Gulch (Colorado)

There was more snow on the trail along Missouri Gulch than we had found on China Wall and Goose Creek Road. The snow made driving and stopping more fun and slippery on the hill. No one had any issues, though, and everyone enjoyed the scenery...

Trip Report: Goose Creek Road (Colorado)

The weather was still nice though some clouds were moving above us. It was going to clear enough to really see the Hayman Fire area and the damage that happened. You could see Pikes Peak from the trail, which was a gorgeous sight to see...

This was our second winter trip of the year, and we met at the trailhead in the Tarryall Reservoir area to start the day. This was Rose's first time offroading, an exchange student from South Korea who was riding along with Matt. She did have a lot of fun on the trails...

Trip Report: Hotel Gulch (Colorado)

This was our last trail of the day, as we all wanted to get back home before the sun went down. The snow storm had stopped and the sun was out. It was a fairly mellow trail. None of us had any problems on the trail. The snow was not that deep at all...

Trip Report: Ice Cave Creek Road (Colorado)

We had lunch near the beginning of the trail. We all forgot to bring anything to sit on, of course, so we all stood around while we were eating. We all could see that a storm was moving in. Pikes Peak was soon gone behind thick, grey clouds and the wind started to blow. So we made it a very quick lunch and started down the trail...

Trip Report: Balanced Rock Road (Colorado)

After we got off of Mount Herman Road it wasn't long before we were at Balanced Rock Road. The weather continued to be clear but cool. We turned down onto the trail and we were having fun in two-wheel drive in the snow for the first part of the trail. There was a burned-out trailer at the first clearng. After passing by that junk, the snow got deeper...

Trip Report: Mount Herman Road (Colorado)

We met at McDonald's in the town of Monument and aired down our tires there. Looking up at Mount Herman, we did not see too much snow. This was our first trip of the new year and we planned on playing in some snow, so we hoped to find some before the end of the day. The sun was out and it looked like it would be a very nice day, so there was a chance we'd only find dirt roads...

Chad Won the 2009 Trail Damage of the Year

Chad won the 2009 Trail Damage of the Year, securing the trophy really late in the season. He was running Sidewinder on October 17th when it happened. He managed to make all of the tough obstacles look easy, only to break a rear axle shaft on the easiest pile of rocks. It took some effort to get off of the trail but he managed. It definitely could have been worse!
